Ever since artists started penning their own tunes, it seems dark tales of death, lust and revenge have provided some of music’s most powerful and painful moments.
From those early folk balladeers to Johnny Cash, Nick Cave and Olivia Newton-John, we just can’t get enough of these eerily intoxicating tales, better known as ‘Murder Ballads’.
And that deliciously dark tradition will be celebrated this October when some of Brisbane’s finest artists come together for a very special show - Murder Ballads Part One at the Judith Wright Centre.
The first in a series of concerts, the October 10 show will feature The Courier Mail Q Song People's Choice Award-winners Mexico City, Roz Pappalardo and the Wayward Gentleman, The Good Ship, Lucy Star Satellite, and Edward Guglielmino.
Each act will perform a selection of their favourite murder ballads from past and present, including songs by Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Olivia Newton-John, PJ Harvey, Bob Dylan, The Violent Femmes and more. Plus each band will perform their own original songs inspired by the dark side.
Don't miss it!
