October E-Newsletter
It’s been great to see so many of you visiting the Judy over the past month and enjoying an eclectic and stimulating range of programs.
A smorgasbord of experiences:
The sold-out New Passion Club was a beautiful autobiographical journey in words, vision and song, and the Queensland Poetry Festival again hit the mark interpreting and defining the kaleidoscope of human experiences in words. Guitar legend Ian Moss sold-out two great concerts, and Sydney-based Arrebato ensemble on their first visit to Brisbane wowed audiences with their high quality and unique flamenco/jazz fusion.
Bell Tower II, our emerging new dance program, presented some wonderfully evocative works by local company seguePICo, and sound architects KTL gave another sell-out crowd a visceral tour through deep and intense sound terrain. Hot off the plane from their European tour, 2 Dogs Soundsystem combined spectacular visuals with infectious hip hop beats in a rarely-seen DVDJ program, and English chanteuse Barb Jungr’s subtle but powerful interpretations were gold for the ears of the capacity crowd.
Sketch comedy maestros, The Sexy Detective, ran another hilarious season to round out our September program.
A la carte:
The premier national contemporary music summit, Big Sound, kicks-off today and features an array of local, national and international speakers, artists, managers and showcases. Presented by QMusic, Big Sound is the place to meet, greet, show, impress and do music business between Wednesday 3 and Friday 5 October. Full program details at www.bigsound.org.au

"Robert Bertram is wickedly funny, devastatingly handsome, sings like Anthony Warlow, dances like Michael Flatley and plays piano like Harry Connock Jr. I loathe him with every fibre of my being." (Tony Sheldon). Catch this incendiary new Australian talent on Saturday 20 October.
Just a quick mention that the Brisbane Cabaret Festival is on again. The seventh HLB Mann Judd Brisbane Cabaret Festival will sashay into the Brisbane Powerhouse with a power-packed program of renegade music, incisive comedy, and drastically dramatic divas. Look out for iconic Australian cartoonist Michael Leunig drawing live on stage with ARIA-award winning singer/songwriter Gyan backed by a stellar band presenting Billy the Rabbit. Make sure you see this rare and enchanting concert on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 November.
A range of workshops, community dance classes and training is offered by resident companies Circa, Expressions Dance Company and the Australian Film, Television, and Radio School.
